Touring their new album ‘Rumble of Thunder,’ The Hu made an appearance at the Nick Rayns LCR alongside special guest, Irish indie band, TAU and The Drones of Praise.
Having previously never hearing their music before and going off a recommendation of a friend, I had no idea what to expect from the night, but I am so glad that I went!
Their unique blend of Mongolian guttural singing and death metal combined elements of traditional battle songs and modern rock that had the LCR on fire. Their self-described ‘hunnu rock’ had everyone feeling ready for battle. I had never seen a Mongolian guitar, jaw harp, or horsehead fiddle before, and I was honestly blown away by each member’s energy and stage presence. This was an experience that had the crowd fully immersed and in the palms of their hands.
Transcending language barriers, I may have had no idea what they were singing, but I felt every word. The crowd roared into action as arguably their most well-known song ‘Black Thunder’ began, as featured on Star Wars video game Jedi: Fallen Order. Written about the heart of a warrior being as powerful as thunder, we certainly felt the thunder as the base from their percussion instruments rumbled through the floors of the LCR and was felt in everyone’s chests.
As encore to all of their concerts, they always play a cover of a Metallica song, and I am so glad I stayed just that little bit longer to hear their rendition of ‘Through the Never.’
Pure head-banging, crowd-surfing, fist-pumping vibes!
