I was lucky enough to see Don Broco in our very own LCR as a part of their Birthday Party Tour and it was absolutely phenomenal!
It was clear that performing at UEA was so special to them as guitarist Simon Delaney studied at UEA and their first performance as a band was here while he was still a student. It was also extremely special to me as I first became a fan after hearing their song ‘Gumshield’ on our Livewire playlist in my first year of uni. I immediately fell in love with their melodic yet hard rock sound and was gutted when I missed out on seeing them way back in 2021. You can imagine the pure adrenaline I felt when they opened the show with ‘Gumshield.’ It was the perfect song to get the crowd energised with front man Rob Damiani rocking the stage with his high-octane dancing.
They followed this with performances of some of my personal favourites ‘Bruce Willis’ and ‘Endorphins’ as well as ‘Fingernails’ and ‘One True Prince.’ The stunning vocals from drummer Matt Donnelly provided a great contrast to Damiani’s intense singing and crowd work. Bassist Tom Doyle kept my side of the crowd entertained as we were just outside of the pit and therefore were not in direct attention of Damiani.
The crowd erupted into several mosh pits throughout the night and even more crowd-surfers. Of course, they had to end the night with ‘T-shirt song’ which has become an audience favourite with everyone taking their shirts off and waving them in the air, an appropriate send off for such an adrenaline fuelled night.
They were supported by British Punk Rock band Trash Boat and Australian Alternative Rock band Ocean Grove. These were the perfect supporting acts to hype up the crowd and complimented Don Broco’s own style perfectly. I admittedly had not heard of them before seeing them live but as soon as I got home, they were added straight to my playlist!
